There is a general water problem in Kakoro village. The only proximate source of water is shallow wells next to dirty swamps. When it rains, all the water in the village runs down to the wells. These water sources dry up during very dry seasons. The nearest bore-hole serves the radius of 3 kilometers and is used by 4 villages serving over 2500 people.Traditionally it is left to the children to fetch water and disrupts the lives of children as they have to walk long distances and wait for many hours in congested boreholes.Because of the difficulty of getting water from the bore-hole, people resort to their traditional shallow open wells for water. They drink this water, use it for washing, cooking, bathing, and watering their animals. These water sources are therefore, shared by animals and human beings alike.
